Eye of Newt?
Update: Fred Thompson shaking up his campaign staff!
I never liked Newt Gingrich much as a human being, but as a politician he has routinely earned my admiration. And he has done so again today, doing what he does best, calling spades spades, and with some linguistic artfulness to boot.
Pressed by The Examiner about whether his political baggage renders him unelectable, Gingrich compared himself to a famous French statesman. "This is like going to De Gaulle when he was at Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises during the Fourth Republic and saying, 'Don't you want to rush in and join the pygmies?'" he said.
Now it's just like Newt to compare himself with De Gaulle, but his point is well-founded. The Republican candidates are practically irrelevant. They have no message and not enough energy or charisma to mobilize a church bazaar.
The Demokratz may be getting bored with their campaign, but it's even because they don't have any good challengers from the Right. Thank goodness Romney had the guts this past week to at least point out that Hillary's economic education in general, and in health care in particular, apparently ended after reading Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto! And that Obama hasn't managed so much as a lemonade stand in his sheltered life!
Well, perhaps the upcoming YouTube/CNN Debate for the Republicans will generate some good Conservative debate. HA! It'll generate some more humiliating catering to ignoramuses and illiterates, shuffling of feet in front of some scumbag commie "journalists" looking to display their puny power. Surely, stirring up the field of mainly RINO's, is going to take more than Romney's off the cuff jabs. I don't see much hope at all unless a REAL Conservative gets into this thing, one who is a good solid humane being with some wit and eloquence. Newt's keen wit would be nice, but there too, we are dealing with an unelectable personality. We really don't need an eye of newt or wing of bat in the White House just these days.
Oh, if only we could talk Dick Cheney into running! In lieu of that, let's keep up the mantra: "Run, Fred, run!" And relish the good news on that front!
