Why do you think so many people every year jump from Niagara Falls or the Golden Gate Bridge? Such unfortunates, having lost all reason, all faith, all connection to life, seek to gain some recognition of their existence by connecting their death to something larger than themselves--what they could not accomplish in life.
The atheistic culture elite hammers home at every occasion relativism and the absence of all meaning in life other than self-gratification--promoting in the alternative as the one source of meaning, worthy of reverence and worship, their belly buttons and their idealized socialist, globe-hugging, utopian nonsense. Well, duh, we should not be surprised to see this type of "glorious" self-immolation, along with as many innocent victims as it takes to break the record. It is the spirit that drives the insane killers in the Middle East, and the "home grown" ones in the West. While it is true that Islam paradigmatically as a thought-system makes it easy for these misfits and psychos to rationalize their heinous acts, the atheist cultural elite in the Western world has made senseless murder and mahem "normal" by destroying not just moral standards, but by destroying the very language of morality--reducing culpable choices to psycho-medical conditions!
Is it any wonder that the fellow was not stopped by the police, by the university. Every person in a position of responsibility these days is terrified more of being sued, or of being called a racist or homophobe, of being hauled before some employment committee for thought crimes, than of getting shot in the face.
By mocking and tearing down family, faith, patriotism and humble labor, by doing all they can to undermine the natural meaning of life, at the most fundamental levels, by perverting all love and hope and faith into sex and money and power, the relativists who kill the mind and heart have cleared the stage for the body killers...
These things are not isolated phenomena.
