State of the Union Review
It was a workmanlike speech, well-crafted and well-delivered. The President set forth important domestic business, and gave the most concise, accurate and telling account of the run-up to the war, the conduct of the war, the situation now, and the significance of victory or defeat. Brilliant. While he did not give the clarity I had mentioned yesterday some people would like, he did explain that the Democrats owed a duty to the country to give victory a chance. Will the Dems? No. Hillary and Obama were quick to laugh that off!
ABC (American Blasphemy Company) News was bending over backwards to portray the speech as a pitiful and impotent lame-duck plea. The Bush-Whackers are a broken record! Reidiculous! Webb of course was an thoroughly pompous drip with his official Dem rebuttal--you can expect him to announce his candidacy for 2008 any day now!
Here's the text of the speech.
Balancing the budget through fiscal restraint and pro-growth tax policies is a no-brainer.
Health care and insurance reform through introducing more market influences, and clarifying benefits packages, is also a no-brainer.
Ending corrupt earmark sleeze in Congress: no-brainer.
Energy independence through market-driven innovation and development of national resources: duh. [Global climate change? Get used to Mother Nature, you phoney Green-heads!]
Maintaining and extending accountability in education: you guessed it, no-brainer.
ALL of these initiatives will be OPPOSED by the Democrats who simply want to 'harm' the President in any way that they can and to position themselves for the next election. They prove themselves to be malevolent ideologues and opportunists with every putrid breath they spew into a tv microphone.
And now on to immigration reform.
The Dems are on board!? We should be suspicious, very suspicious.
Reform "with animosity and without amnesty" is a catchy one, but it must be translated into law. I believe the President has left a wide berth for Congress to come up with a policy--but the Republicans were too cowardly when they were in the majority! Now the Democrats have the initiative and they will be looking to push amnesty because the Dems see in the Nuevo Americans a future voting constitutuency... i.e. a bigger one than the illegal voters that they recruit now.
Stopping that move will be impossible. And so I reiterate the Dumb Ox Contract For America points from last year, with focus on what I think is the one, central issue. Acculturation and assimilation. Without promoting our shared vision of the nation, of our history and liberties, we will certainly go the way of Rome, over-run by eager Germans that wanted the wealth of Rome but were to busy robbing and stealing to learn Latin or Roman virtues.
We cannot let that happen. Republicans have an opportunity to do an "end run" around the Bolsheviks and International Socialists calling themselves Democrats.
PASS THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT NOW ON ENGLISH AS THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF THE UNITED STATES!
